Energy is fantastically important. Most of our energy: electricity, petrol, gas, etc. is created from fossil fuels. These emit CO2 when they're burnt/used - leading to climate change.

We have to use less energy. We have to stop burning fossil fuels.

There's another problem: Peak Oil. This is the point at which the demand for oil starts to outstrip the supply. After that oil will becomes very difficult to get at, supplies will reduce rapidly, and oil will become a lot more expensive. Many people believe wars like the Gulf War are largely about controlling the supply of oil for a few more years.

The International Energy Agency (the main world strategic body assessing energy supplies for governments) now believes Peak Oil will arrive around 2020.

We must have renewable energy supplies by then - otherwise our national energy security will be at severe risk - and our energy bills may go through the roof.

The Manx Electricity Authority is the monopoly electricity supplier on the Isle of Man. They currently have no renewable energy capacity or a strategy to produce energy from renewables in the future.

What is IoM FoE doing?

We're currently running a postcard campaign asking the Manx Electricity Authority to generate electricity from renewable energy, and to develop a Renewable Energy Tariff.
