Isle Of Man Friends of the Earth is a local group, which is part of Friends of the Earth UK.

Our aim is the protection of the Manx environment and the promotion of sustainable living and global environmental justice.

Climate change is the issue that will most profoundly affect the people and environment of the Isle of Man. It will especially affect our children and grandchildren.

It is largely caused by man-made air pollution of CO2 from burning fossil fuels: coal, oil, petrol, gas.

It is imperative that we cut down on the use of fossil fuels at home, in offices and for cars.

Energy efficiency in newly built and renovated properties should be made compulsory. Planning restrictions for installation of renewable energy, such as wind and solar power, should be eased.

We can reduce carbon dioxide emissions further by cutting down on products that are transported over long distances. We support the sale of local produce.

With more than 6 billion people on Earth we cannot continue the present use of natural resources.

Nature’s assets are over-exploited for economic gain to the detriment of indigenous people and wildlife.

Morning1

We must reduce our waste which pollutes the environment, destroys resources and is harmful to marine life, birds and animals, as well as to our own health. Of course we should recycle paper, glass and metals and turn garden & kitchen waste into useful compost. But reduction towards zero waste is really the only way to prevent further pollution and waste of resources. Burning is not the solution: it pollutes the air and wastes resources and money.

We need an extended and integrated public transport system on the Island. An essential part of such integration is a central bus station.

Many of our members are active in a number of these areas, each to their specific interests. If you share our views, please join us. The more campaigners, the stronger their voice.

We meet on the second Wednesday each month at the Rovers Return in Douglas at 7.30 PM. Guests are welcome. For further information, click on contact us.
